Giovanni's Woodfire & Kitchen

Known to many for his love of family & good food, most importantly traditional Sicilian food, Giovanni also shared a love for storytelling and it is to no surprise that his own story now lives on.

Raised in the small town of Linguaglossa, Sicily and migrating to Australia in the early 50s and marrying his childhood sweetheart Francesca, Giovanni ticked all the boxes of a classic Italian family man doing his best to create a better life for his family.

Constantly surrounded by Grandchildren, Giovanni and Francesca were never shy to teach the new generations a thing or two about cooking. Recounting their time back in Sicily picking, preparing and preserving food to see them through the winter, skills now used to make some of the most loved delicacies.

One of the most attentive Grandchildren was Adrian, the first Grandchild of Giovanni & Francesca. From a very young age, Adrian’s love for cooking was undeniable, and at a ripe age of 15, Adrian set on his way to becoming a chef. Living with his Nonno & Nonna’s for periods of time, Adrian soaked up all the knowledge on offer to learn the traditional Sicilian recipes and discovering the art of those stand out flavours we all crave.

The biggest critic you ask? Well that was Giovanni of course! A little more salt, too much of that, roll it this way, kneed it that way…he was always happy to offer his 5 cents.

To celebrate the memory of Giovanni’s love affair for Italian food, in April 2018 Giovanni’s Woodfire & Kitchen was launched by Adrian and business partner, Michael, a life-long dream in the making.
